You Are Not Lazy. Your Nervous System Is Burned Out.

You are not lazy.

I need you to hear that. Really hear it.

Because I know the story you have been telling yourself. You used to be on fire. You used to wake up at 5 AM and crush it. You used to have ideas pouring out of you like water. And now you can barely get through your inbox without wanting to crawl back into bed.

So you call yourself lazy. You call yourself undisciplined. You wonder what happened to the person who used to run on ambition and black coffee and sheer will.

I will tell you what happened. Your nervous system finally said enough.

The Lie of Laziness

Here is what nobody in the business world wants to admit. The thing we call laziness in high performers is almost never laziness. It is a nervous system that has been running in survival mode for so long that it simply cannot sustain it anymore.

Your body is not broken. It is protecting you.

I know this because I lived it. Twenty years in real estate. Building, grinding, performing. I looked successful on the outside. On the inside, my body was screaming. I ignored it. I pushed harder. I added more adaptogenic smoothies and meditation apps and told myself I just needed better habits.

What I needed was to stop.

What Burnout Actually Is

Burnout is not about working too many hours. That is the surface level explanation that sells productivity courses.

Real burnout is a nervous system that has been stuck in fight or flight for so long that it has shifted into freeze. It is your body pulling the emergency brake because you refused to slow down on your own.

It looks like brain fog that will not lift. It looks like scrolling your phone for two hours because you cannot bring yourself to start anything. It looks like snapping at people you love and then feeling guilty about it. It looks like success that tastes like nothing.

The Recovery Nobody Talks About

Here is the part that gets uncomfortable.

You cannot hustle your way out of nervous system burnout. You cannot optimize it away. You cannot add another supplement or journal practice or morning routine on top of a body that is begging you to subtract.

Recovery starts with honesty. With admitting that the pace was never sustainable. That the version of you who could do it all was not thriving. She was surviving.

I had to learn this in ceremony. In plant medicine circles. In the silence of the Mexican jungle where there was nothing left to perform for. My body started shaking out years of stored survival energy. Years of smiling when I was drowning. Years of saying I am fine when I was anything but.

The Way Back

The way back is not dramatic. It is quiet. It is boring. It is the kind of healing that does not make good Instagram content.

It is learning to breathe before you respond. It is sitting in stillness without reaching for your phone. It is saying no to things your old self would have said yes to without thinking. It is letting your body complete the stress cycle instead of trapping it inside.

It is daily practice. Not the kind that looks good on a vision board. The kind that actually changes the way your nervous system responds to the world.

Breathwork. Somatic movement. Cold water on your face when the panic rises. A walk without your phone. Five minutes of doing absolutely nothing.

You Were Never Broken

The story of laziness is a lie that keeps you stuck. It keeps you cycling between pushing too hard and collapsing. Between proving yourself and punishing yourself.

You were never lazy. You were never broken. You were a high performer whose body finally demanded a different way.

And that different way is not less. It is more. More presence. More clarity. More creative energy than you have felt in years. But it comes from regulation, not from force.

I built my entire practice around this truth. Because I am not interested in helping people perform better from a place of depletion. I am interested in helping people build lives and businesses from a body that actually feels safe.

Your nervous system knows things your mind has been too busy to hear. It is time to listen.

Take the Nervous System Quiz to find out where your body is right now. No judgment. Just truth.
